The Chronicles of eejun's most exciting adventures I:
the male ego.
***
It was supposed to be a normal evening.
My tutee has kindly requested to postpone his tuition session to the next day, and that left me with a wee bit of free time at hand. Now, factoring in, too, the Fire Emergency Evacuation Drill (i just realised that the acronym is FEED. But I digress.) that was going to be held between 8pm to 9pm, I decided to conveniently excuse myself from it by doing some exercise elsewhere, outside of my hostel.
That said, I happily jogged out, and for some unexplainable reason, I turned right and went up South Buena Vista Road, instead of turning left to go to NUH and then to the SRC (as I had rationally planned).
Some problems surfaced.
One, you should never do a new running route exploration at night. The roads can be kind of creepy, or more importantly, you could really get bumped down by some F1 racer-wannabe who's travelling at 150km/h if you weren't wearing those high-tech light reflective running gears (then again, that wouldn't have helped much. an impact-proof armour would have been more practical).
Two, I realised that not all roads lead to Rome after all. My sophisticated intellect had somehow imagined that S.B. Road would just trail off and emerge at NUS Sch of Biz/Archi/Engine. It didn't quite occur to me that: 1. if it did, Bus 188 would have had a stop somewhere behind PGP; 2. PGP would have been much closer to Clementi (which it wasn't; and 3. the legendary NACLI (some student leadership training school) would have been somewhere on the NUS radar (which again, it isn't).
Three, it didn't quite occur to me also that if all of the above materialised (which was exactly what happened), I would end up running for quite a far distance, something that didn't quite cross my mind then.
So it happened.
After labouring on for a while, the rational mind said that I should turn back and embrace civilization once again, and not continue on this mindless adventure that might take me to -God-knows-where. But the male ego refused to budge one bit. Even as Lianhe Wanbao headlines of 'NUS student gets involved in car accident' flashed across my mind, I continued on. The logical thing I did was to run on the pavement on the opposite side of the road (which didn't occur to me for the first 10mins).
After 20mins, voila! I found myself in Haw Par Villa. lol. On the bright side, I knew that some SBS bus services did go from NUS to HPV. On the down side, these two locations could be kind of far apart. geez.
In any case, one couldn't quite stop in those circumstance, right? So this adventure had to continue.
Only after 35 mins since starting did I see this sign post labelled 'Heng Mui Keng Terrace'. That was like woah! Thats the road just outside Sch of Biz!
Thus ended the first of the Chronicles of eejun's most exciting adventures.
